All postures and movements in yoga begin with the breath. We synchronize the movement with the breath, which is always the starting point. It is often difficult to put that into practice. In this lesson we pay extra attention to this: at which moment and with which movement do you breathe in and at which moment and with which movement do you breathe out and how does that influence the intensity of the yoga posture.
State of mind
The way of breathing is also strongly related to our state of mind; in case of panic we breathe quickly and high in the chest, when we are quiet the breath goes low and to our stomach, and conversely we become restless from high and fast breathing and we can calm ourselfs by breathing low.
In yoga we naturally opt for the latter, but that is where it starts. In this class we will also pay attention to the breathing techniques developed in yoga. The control of the breath is called Pranayama. Prana is the life energy we get in with breath. Yama means control. Various techniques have been developed to control that life energy and how to benefit from it. Some of these techniques provide energy and warmth, others provide more rest and relaxation and others are focused on finding balance and focus.
During this class you will learn and apply some of these techniques in combination with a Basic (Vinyasa) Flow. Insight into your own way of breathing raises your energy level and with help of your breath you can achieve deeper relaxation and inner balance.
This class is suitable for everyone, independent of your expierence in yoga.
